Sisters Of The Hood – Women Empowerment Through Communities

Welcome to my blog on Women’s Empowerment. This blog is an opening statement of my mindset and the way I see communities playing a role in empowering and enabling women who are from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds in Australia.

I have been fortunate to be related to the subject of Women’s Empowerment despite being a male. Interesting and absolutely fascinating position to be in. Coming from a male-dominated patriarchal society, it means a lot to me to talk about Women Empowerment and to start an initiative that brings in awareness within the Australian society

This initiative is the outcome of seeing my wife’s struggle in her job, the trauma and the PTSD being the undesired outcome of her struggle that lasted close to 5 years. Was this an isolated incident? probably not, as even though Australia is a welcoming country and the land of opportunity, like everywhere in the world, there are people and businesses who take advantage of the circumstances and exploit them for personal gains.

PTSD being the undesired outcome of her struggle that lasted close to 5 years. Was this an isolated incident? probably not, as even though Australia is a welcoming country and the land of opportunity, like everywhere in the world, there are people and businesses who take advantage of the circumstances and exploit them for personal gains.

Every woman has a story to narrate and along with that a long list of sacrifices that she has undertaken to maintain the sanctity of a family and be the focal point who is by default supposed to be magnanimous, loving, and caring. But behind that veil is the ever-present sense of uncertainty about everything other than herself.

Coming back to the topic of Communities, how can communities help women survive, thrive, go beyond and explore their true potential rather than being riddled with home choirs and relegated to an inconsequential cog in the family.

There are many examples of how a simple movement within a small community became a large movement that has changed the lives of many. Women Initiatives that are worth their weight in diamonds. http://www.dhonk.com/
Many examples exemplify the role of communities in empowering women by creating a sustenance and support model that takes vulnerable, downtrodden, and often neglected women within its fold and provides that ray of hope that changes their lives forever.

The initiatives Sisters of the hood is one such program that I am working upon that will work towards creating awareness and opportunity within the communities for women who are migrants, abused, neglected, and often the ones who have lost their self-confidence due to the way they have been treated. This initiative also recognizes enterprising women who would like to embark on the journey to freedom and self-reliance.

The key to success in communities is the collective strength of its members and the unified voice that is created which transcends all barriers and glass ceilings. Kudos to all such Communities that have established a role model for others to follow and create that environment of well-being for women.

Australia is a land of immigrants regardless of when their ancestors arrived. Aborigines who are the custodian of the land have been relegated in history books and kept in isolation very much like the Indians in America. The government has ensured healthcare and all the trappings of the modern world along with its vices. To name a few drugs, alcohol, and gambling. It is very similar to a total dismantling of the social fabric that was undertaken by the East India Company in West Bengal, India. years of neglect and protection with selective exposure ultimately leads to the annihilation of the communities that build the social fabric. How East India Company destroyed the Textile Industry In India.

Sisters of the Hood is synonymous with Communities. All women, and in this context sisters of a locality come together with a mission and an objective and create a collective movement to embark on the journey to accomplish the goals. This blog highlights the accomplishment of such organizations that bring about a change in the lives of women.

Grouping of any sort brings its benefits and challenges. A community of like-minded people coming together for a common cause is not different. However, if the intentions are noble and the coming together is for a just cause then the power it garners is immense. The energy and the sheer intensity of the community can make things happen through inspiration and political maneuvering. The aim is to inspire others and create a ripple effect to bring about the change and speed the process of finally understanding that it is women who shape the nation.
